Paul Atkins
Director of Photography

From Antarctica to the tropical Pacific, Paul Atkins has captured the world’s cultures and wildlife on film for twenty years. His internationally acclaimed cinematography, and documentaries produced with his wife and fellow filmmaker, Grace Atkins, have won numerous Emmys and British Academy Awards and has been featured on National Geographic, BBC, IMAX theaters and all major television networks. In recent years, Paul has turned his cinematic attention to drama and feature films, working with directors Peter Weir and Terrence Malick as well as independent filmmakers from his home in Hawaii. Paul filmed The Land Has Eyes which played the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and was Fiji’s submission for Best Foreign Film to the Academy Awards, and Tides of War, Regent Entertainment’s first feature in Hawaii. On a 42-day epic voyage around Cape Horn, he shot the storm footage for Master and Commander, which won the 2004 Academy Award for Cinematography. Paul continues to shoot docs that promote environmental causes, working with Cameron Diaz on her MTV series, Trippin, the BBC/Discovery Channel’s Planet Earth series, and with Jean-Michel Cousteau on Ocean Adventures: Voyage to Kure, the film responsible for President Bush’s decision to designate the North Western Hawaiian Islands as a marine sanctuary.
